Taste Makers Coming Soon

So what is Taste Makers? We're so glad you asked!

Food First Foundation, NWT launched its signature nutrition education program,Taste Makers, this week. CBC and CKLB radio spots about the launch highlighted the problems facing Northern communities as they struggle with food security issues and health concerns such as high rates of obesity and diabetes. Taste Makers is taking healthy eating education to the schools of the NWT in the hopes that future generations will have the knowledge and skills to make healthy food choices and prepare food that contributes to healthy people and healthy communities.

Tastemakers is designed to give the teachers a “take and teach” program that is easy to offer and meets curriculum objectives. We also want the program to engage the students; we want them to eat it up!Original cartoons of a crusading team of energetic vegetables rooting out” evil food choices make the lessons fun and memorable.

After seeing the Taste Makers Program at the recent Principals Conference, two excellent schools agreed to pilot the program - Kakisa Territorial School and the K’alemi Dene School in N’dilo are running the program and giving us invaluable classroom feedback. Food First is funding the food needed to run the program and can’t wait to hear back from the teachers.
